Re: Update, etc
Regarding waivers, you asked for it, you got it:
Any player making at least $1M and 26 or older is subject to being claimed on waivers. The exception is for emergency recalls: If you need to call up a guy to keep your roster at 22 players, he is not subject to waivers when he is demoted as long as he is sent down when the player he "replaced" is no longer injured.
As for two-way contract clauses, they are no longer necessary. For this season we will not be enforcing the AHL salary cap, since we never really looked at it anyway in the past. The 50 contract limit and AHL max contracts mean less money on the farm anyway. Having to go back and figure out who wants to add 2-way clauses to all these recent contracts anyway would be a hassle that neither Tim nor I want to undertake. And we have enough to monitor as it is.
As for RFAs, we are going to allow bidding on all current RFA players, even on orphaned teams. Per the rulebook (page 24), you have one offer to make on any particular player, and if the owning team chooses to not match your bid, you will owe compensation as shown on page 25. You must own at least one pick from the round(s) indicated for the salary you've offered, but it does not need to be your own pick. Plus it must be for the next draft. If you own multiple picks in a designated compensation round, the order of determination is as follows: 1) your pick, 2) best possible remaining pick based on previous season standings. To determine whether an offer will be matched for orphan-team RFAs, we will draw a random number: 1-50 = match the offer; 51-100 = decline to match, receive compensation.
Since the RFA paragraph is a clarification for this year's circumstances, we will allow anyone who has made a bid on an existing RFA to either confirm their existing bid or make another one. All bids should be submitted to the "Free Agents" account as you would for bidding on an UFA.

That would have been helpful to know going into Free Agency Frenzy, but at the same time I've got young guns to get ice time.

So clearly Pat and Tim are working very hard to create a smooth free agency expierence for us. Any word on when the pre-season will start? Iirc, it's September 5th in-game.
Again, big thanks to everyone who is making EHEC run so smoothly.

We're getting to it.
I'm going to enter all the signings shortly, update waivers, etc, and then see about pre-season and creating the regular season schedule as well.

File has been advanced to 9/2 and updated with all free agents signings and etc.
Pre-season games will begin on Friday, September 5. It seems to me that the only issue with GM Office is (was?) with training. So if folks want to try updating lines using GM Office before the 5th, please do so. Let's see if this is working, since doing lines via GM Office will be MUCH easier than the old way. Also, if anyone wants to take a crack at overwriting the EHM schedule with the actual NHL one, be my guest...

Going to attempt the schedule over the next few days. Seems pretty straightforward. Could I get an updated list of team number values? (i.e ANA = 1). I will post if its an epic fail and I need to pass off the job.

I did the schedule last time, it's easy enough. I think I even have a script to do it saved somewhere and if not I can always make it again.

Guys, please do NOT set training using GM Office. In the time between posting the new file and now, the players file has become corrupted again. The only changes in the file are positions and training, and we know that there was a training bug Quinn fixed once. It appears there is another one...Bub(NYR) wrote:File has been advanced to 9/2 and updated with all free agents signings and etc.

Dan --
I just reposted the file about 10 minutes ago, then went and made some changes to my training via GM Office. Using a file compare tool, I checked the changes between the latest save on my pc, and the file on the ftp site (which has the GM Office changes). There appear to be no problems with the updated file. This requires more examination...

Nothing looks obviously wrong with the training page. It won't let you set training above 100%. The staff in the dropdown are all valid staff. I don't see how it lets you do anything that EHM doesn't at first glance.

I'm attacking the regular season part of the schedule. Copy it over the regular season games in the old schedule.ehm and it should work. I tested it and it gave everyone the requisite 82 games and matched the NHL's schedule in the first few days. Since it's automated there shouldn't be any errors but you're welcome to doublecheck.

I'm guessing because of the issues with Office, we are going to have the start of the pre-season delayed?
I saw Quinn online today, not sure about his schedule and if he has time to troubleshoot the issues we are having. I'm not sure if we want to go back to posting on the forums/sending e-mail instructions until things get figured out.

This. With guys trading franchise tagged players like Bern trades hood rats, it's looking like a more viable option. Less confusion and easier to keep track of as well.Calgary.Flames wrote:Remove the Franchise Tag option straight up. Have players back at the salary they really deserve.

Besides the fact teams have already built their roster with the franchise tag discount built in for this season, I never would of signed Gaborik to his contract if I wasn't getting a 25% discount.CapsGM wrote:This. If that's the direction were headed in, that 25% cap hit has to be accounted for in some way (higher cap or grandfather the rule in).
Don't underestimate the power of incentives; I hope we seriously entertain the idea of "hometown discounts" next year.

Re: Update, etc
Still doesn't change the fact I'll have Gaborik at 6 more years at 9 million, instead of 7. whatever it is. I would of signed him to a much shorter deal; however, if the cap goes up 7-8 million over the next two seasons I will just bite the bullet. Kind like how I didn't bitch about not having a tag for two years, and EDM (and presumably PHI) walk away with no penalty.CapsGM wrote:We're not getting rid of it this season. I kept quiet when the trade was first posted and accepted. I could of suggested it be a one or two year penalty, which would of hurt you and had me in the clear. The quickest way to move on, since the league approved your deal without mention of any penalty, was to have no penalty for trading a tagged player.
I'm not going to get in a flame war about this. I'm sure the people in charge will make the right call.

You, the GM, designate one player on your roster as a franchise player when you are re-signing an expiring contract. Nothing to do with the in-game role.Singin the BLUES wrote:Ok, well if a "franchise player" gets a 25% discount, why didnt i get that when i resigned Lehtonen? And also Daniel Sedin.

I still like the idea that I proposed of a static tag during the regular season which cannot be removed, and the option to switch it to an expiring contract or trade away/for a tagged player. It ensures one "core player" remains on every team during the regular season, providing some sort of familiarity which (some) GMs want.
However, increasing the cap an extra 2 to 2.5 million next year in addition to it's schedule hike would work to if we decide to remove it.

Re: Update, etc
This is how I think an actual franchise tag should work:
2 tags per team, 20% discount each.
Tags can be applied only during the offseason, if a team is below the 2 tag limit.
No-trade clause for the full duration of the contract. No bullshit essays to revoke them.
If a team misses the playoffs two seasons in a row, then they have the option to trade a franchise tagged player.
2 tags per team rule still applies - if they try to acquire a third tagged player, the salary goes back up.
The purpose of this is to give GMs some agency in controlling salaries for their team, effectively giving a discount for an NTC. But it should be a real NTC.

Hey guys,
Can some one confirm the following issues, and add anything else that needs to be changed:
- There is some sort of issue with setting training using the office. It appears that it is caused by team training, not individual player training.
- We need to allow for forwards to be used at defense on the powerplay.
- All other functions work properly.
I see STL mentioned he would like to have the ability to select players using their alternate positions when setting lines. While I see his point, to a degree, you can't do this in EHM either. Yes, you can set a player to play out of position if you have an out-of-position guy selected, but if you hit the "L" tab, you will only see your left wingers. This would not be difficult to add, but then it kind of makes the "switch position" function on the roster management page trivial. Pat/Tim/Adam, you guys make the call.

So for special teams...
- Allow any forward to play any forward position on the PK
- Allow any forward to play defense on the PP

This must be what is causing the runtime errors I'm getting, since a file compare of the players.ehm file doesn't reveal anything odd. I just downloaded the zip file and the players file from the ftp site onto my home computer, and am getting the same issues. I do have uncorrupted files on my work computer. Given all that above, are we okay with delaying the start of the pre-season a day or two to try to get any wrinkles ironed out? Once we get going, I can do double sims for a bit to catch up, but that will mean I'll probably post smaller (or no) game reports to the pre-season forum.

Re: Update, etc
I think it's best that we give Quinn a week or so, if his schedule permits it, to troubleshoot GM Office until it's working the way we need it to. It's such an awesome tool we should be patient with it. If we start the pre-season now with people sending instructions in via PM, e-mail and still using GM Office it's going to be tough to figure out what the technical issues are.
Fix Office once and for all, then smooth sailing! Even if the pre-season is delayed by two weeks, we could just sim two EHM days for one real life day to get back on track for the regular season.

Re: Update, etc
Making changes to the rules regarding line submissions is trivial. I can have that done by Sunday when I have a chance to get to the code. It seems like the only line "problems" are just the PK and PP issues discussed - so if you don't care about those problems for your first preseason game if you have a game before Sunday, then go ahead and use the tool to submit your lines. If not, just e-mail them to the lines account.
It seems like the only issue that may take some figuring out is the training issue. Pat, can you confirm that the problem is somewhere inside the teams.ehm file? It looks like you ran a diff between a healthy file and a corrupted file but didn't find anything noticably bad, is that right? If so, there may be some invalid training numbers... Without having the code in front of me, I bet the EHM sliders in-game don't correspond exactly to round numbers like 10, 20, 30, 40, 50% etc. Perhaps one of those numbers is invalid.
Also, I see a bug on the standings page that is giving a divide by zero warning. This will be a trivial change as well.

Also, I see a bug on the standings page that is giving a divide by zero warning. This will be a trivial change as well.
