Bit of a gamble on my end, mixing up the powerplay unit that has been #1 or #2 in the league for two seasons now. Souray has a monstrous shot that should theoretically provide no downgrade at all. This deal gives me options though - I wasn't bringing back Boyle at the end of the year and now I have Souray signed for this season plus next, with Matheson waiting in the wings. Could mean in the off-season someone is expendable, depending on the trade return, or being that most of them need new contracts, if I don't like the number, I have flexibility to let them walk. I cut a mere $400k ish in this deal as well giving me a bit more flexibility in case of injuries down the stretch. *knock on wood.*

Souray and Boyle are comparable in some aspects though - both have similar con - similar age - and similar leadership with Souray having slightly better which will increase in the off-season and he's already signed at a decent enough price. Boyle was having a sub-par year compared to last year, and with the emergence of Sbisa, Boyle found himself on the 3rd pairing, where his 70 DEF isn't quite suited and hopefully Souray with more DEF is a better fit. Souray way stronger and a bit more physical as well, and his 2nd kick at the can on the Habs. Scored 11 goals two seasons ago so I hope it continues.
