The Calder Memorial Trophy, named after former National Hockey League president Frank Calder, is awarded to the National Hockey League player judged to be the most proficient in his first season. Frank Calder was the NHL’s president from 1917 until his sudden death in 1943. Although the NHL’s best rookie was announced beginning with Carl Voss in 1933, it wasn’t until the 1936-37 season and Syl Apps the recipient that the winner actually won the Calder Trophy. Upon Calder’s death, the award became the Calder Memorial Trophy.
2009-2010 Winner: Semyon Varlamov (Washington Capitals)
2010-2011 Winner: Andrei Loktionov (Calgary Flames)
2011-2012 Winner: Tyler Seguin (Tampa Bay Lightning)
2012-2013 Winner: Oscar Klefbom (San Jose Sharks)
2013-2014 Winner: Olli Maatta (New Jersey Devils)

Past voting results:

2010: Varlamov wins with 10 votes after finishing with 49 wins in 77 games, a 2.32 GAA and .901 sv%. Jonathan Bernier (LA, 6 votes) and Artem Anisimov (NYR, 2 votes) placed 2nd and 3rd.
2011: Loktionov narrowly wins with 7 votes after 32 goals and 77 points in 82 games. Jordan Eberle (EDM, 6 votes) finished second.
2012: Seguin wins with 12 first-place votes and 42 voting points. He scored 31 goals and 71 points. Jack Campbell (WPG, 2 first-place, 18 points) and Tyler Cuma (NJ, 11 points) finished 2nd and 3rd.
2013: Klefbom wins with 9 first-place votes and 29 voting points. He scored 11 goals and 50 points from the blueline. John Gibson (FLA, 2 first-place votes, 8 points) and Bohumil Jank (6 points) placed 2nd and 3rd.
2014: Maatta wins a tight race with 4 1sts and 19 points, after putting up 37 points, 40 PIM, a +12 T-G and 72 SB in a full season. Andrei Vasilevski (SJ, 4 1sts, 12 points) and Nicklas Jensen (PIT, 1 st, 7 points) were 2nd and 3rd.
