Reasoning: I needed a defensive d-man replacement for Alex Grant for the playoffs, so that Derek Joslin can get back to business in the AHL. Negrin comes cheap and can play on the PK, and can be an option for next season as well. I've got a bunch of 18 year olds that I can't move up for another season or more, so why should I care about draft picks? If I do, I've gotten offers for some of my other d-men who I can move for picks AND save on cap space as well.

Combined with the Smaby trade, this gives me lineup options for the heavy hitters in the East and for the Western teams as well.

Because he will fall under the Tyler Myers Rule, I had no intention to bring Negrin back next season. Although I meant to trade him at the deadline, Boston matched my price so it's all good. I gave up a 2nd round and a 3rd to get him so I just wanted to have the picks back.
