Re: Team Canada 2010
Nash - Crosby - Iginla
Marleau - Thornton - Heatley
St. Louis - B Richards - Stamkos
M Richards - Getzlaf - Perry
Pronger - Boyle
Bouwmeester - Phaneuf
Green - Keith
Brodeur
Luongo
SCRATCHES:
J Carter
D Doughty/S Weber (I haven't seen a lot of Weber)
If I had to pick a 3rd goalie it would be Ward or Mason, Fleury close 3rd.
Also considered:
-S Neidermayer - I heard on CBC he's not being considered for the team, he should be.
-E Staal/V Lecavlier - Not putting up the numbers they should but both are legit #1 centres in the NHL.
-Doan/Morrow/Smyth - Don't think these type guys are necessary, a lot of Canada's stars have a mean streak.
-Regehr/other defensive stalwarts - This is a skating game.

Well he was born in Quebec so he is Canadian, but you're right he plays for USA Hockey.Penguin wrote:Paul Stastny is american!

I had my friend correct me too.
You would rather have Brad Richards over Toews? I don't even think Brad got invited. On top of my head, I'd invite Cammalleri, Spezza, Savard and a bunch of other guys before him!

Re: Team Canada 2010
Forgot about Marc, maybe him over Brad but not the other guys'. Brad's one of the best playmakers in the league, doesn't take penalties, plays decent defense, and can play any forward position. He's playing like he did in '04 with St. Louis and Lecavalier, remember he was Tampa's best player with Khabibulin, not Vinny or Martin.Penguin wrote:I had my friend correct me too.![]()

Your post made me check his stats and I had no idea he had 35 in 28 games. Glad to know he's back at the top!

No Vinny, Marty and on top of that.. no Mike Green.
I had no idea Seabrook was good enough for the olympics!

Re: Team Canada 2010
I like the Seabrook pick. As far as I can tell, Stevie Y and the rest of the selection committee wanted to build on current chemistry. The whole SJ line, Getzlaf and Perry, Seabrook and Keith. I think the fact that it's on a North American surface had a lot to do with it, too. If this game's in Europe somewhere, odds are Morrow and Seabrook get bypassed for St. Louis and Green or something like that.Penguin wrote:No Vinny, Marty and on top of that.. no Mike Green.I had no idea Seabrook was good enough for the olympics!
I think the biggest snub is Doan. A Morrow-Richards-Doan line would probably go the whole tourney without getting scored on.
Either way, injuries are sure to play a factor before the tourney.

Over Double Dion too! Doan I don't mind not having cause of what he said about frenchies a while back.
Here's what I'd go with into the 1st game:
Iginla-Toews-Richards (all have amazing character and poise on the ice)
Perry-Crosby-Bergeron (they did great at the World Juniors together)
Marleau-Thornton-Heatley (chemistry from San Jose)
Nash-Staal-Getzlaf (big skilled forwards)
Sub: Morrow
Niedermayer-Pronger (reuniting the vets from Anaheim)
Weber-Boyle (should be strong on the PP)
Keith-Seabrook (chemistry from Chicago)
Sub: Doughty
1-Luongo
2-Brodeur (Marty is Marty, but I don't like his style and he won't have a defensive system like NJ)
Sub: Fleury

Re: Team Canada 2010
I laugh when people comlpain that Phaneuf isn't on the team. Dion is probably the most overrated defensemen in the NHL. Dion has a great shot (When he hits the bloody net), and can hit very hard. However his other qualities are just not good enough to be a top flight defenseman. Dion's defensive coverage is just plain horrible, he doesn't think out there on the ice. Unless Phaneuf can somehow fix this, he will never be on the Canadian Olympic team.
Doughty on the other hand has proven that he deserves to be on the team. IMO he's outplayed Boumy. Drew is carrying that LA blueline. Doughty is just so poised at a young age, and it doesn';t hurt to add some youth to the team. If this guy played on the east coast, 1. No one would be complaining that he is on the team. 2. Most people would label this guy as a Norris candidate.
The one pick I dislike is the Morrow pick. What the hell is wrong with Doan? Shane has a ton of international experience, has captained Team Canada multiple times in the WHC. I just think that was a bad move by Yzerman. I feel sorry for Shane, but what can you do.

As a Canucks fan I would love to see Luongo get the starting job, but I just don't see it happening. Unless Marty screws up like Cujo did back in '02.Penguin wrote:Over Double Dion too! Doan I don't mind not having cause of what he said about frenchies a while back.

If Team Canada wants Silver, they'll put Fleury in.

Re: Team Canada 2010
Remember how great McCabe was in the Olympics? Yeah, leaving Phaneuf out is not a bad choice.
Re: Team Canada 2010
Did McCabe play alot though? I don't ever remember seeing him play in the '06 playoffs.
Re: Team Canada 2010
I thought McCabe was a the better in the pairing with Kaberle but since McCaber left TOR I can see who was the stud.WildGM wrote:Did McCabe play alot though? I don't ever remember seeing him play in the '06 playoffs.
