Activity Rewards
Things have gone pretty dry around here. Guess I have to incentivize posting a little bit.
Criteria:
1. Make at least 10 quality posts by January 31 at 11:59 pm PST, including one team news forum post (minimum 250 words) about your team's current situation. (just posting one or two words does not count) *Requirement subject to change depending on topics that may come up* (re: new NZT poll w/ mandatory vote(?))
2. You must send lines/instructions at least three times (if no changes need to be made, just use the GMCP to send an email that says "No changes." or something to that effect) A tally will be kept in the hidden Committee forums to keep track of who sends what.
Reward:
Two qualifying GMs will be randomly selected to receive one of two awards.
1. 20 ceiling points to a 5th round or lower prospect from either of the 2010 or 2011 drafts. 10 points for one OF category, 10 points for one DF category. (prospect to be chosen at random, GM choice on attributes)
2. The right to add 20 ceiling points to a 5th round or lower prospect from the 2012 draft. 10 points for one OF category, 10 points for one DF category. (prospect & attributes to be chosen at time of draft selection)
The objective here is to get the boards re-invigorated, not to just post stupid bullshit. Pictures and videos in game result threads are fine so long as I've never seen them before and they are actually entertaining. Unless a 7th rounder gets randomly selected, the odds are likely that 10 ceiling points will boost one attribute by at least 6 points, so this worth your while. Also, boosters are eligible.
In time, the hope is that we can expand these to create scenarios where 6th/7th rounders become surprise contributors like some NHL players. That's up to you. I'll try to continue doing these because the chatter on the boards seems to have been suffering for a while and if I have to coax posts out of GMs with some small rewards, that's fine. I expect activity to pick up as we near the trade deadline as well.
I'll try to focus on long-term criteria rather than short-term as I know some of you are really busy. Initially, I had 5 posts in 4 days, but 10 posts in 15 days seems more reasonable.
Also, I'll have another announcement shortly.

Just a note, the at least three times sending lines/instructions thing is from now until the end of the month. Not three times in the entire month.

Also, quality posts do include managing your team, such as demotions or trades. It's about league activity, not Pulitzer prizes.

I can't write long and entertaining texts like let's say SJ does cause of the language barrier. But I can write this from my cell phone and I most likely send instructions/change lines two times a day.

To be clear, sending multiple lines/instructions per sim doesn't count. Three individual days. I'm pretty sure everyone plays more than 3 times over 15 days. Or at least exactly 3 days.

Just a note re: NZT. Personally as someone who is strongly against any sort of regulation, establishing that limiting the amount of time is a looser regulation then removing it as a tactic available for a 1st line is very important. Since so many GMs are for regulation I'm beginning to accept it as a an eventual reality; however, it's clearly no where in the same league as HNG so its regulation should reflect that imo.
side note: 4 of the top 5 teams currently are NOT using NZT on their top two lines.

I think CBS is a perfect example of how lethal NZT can be. They have skyrocketed ever since Adam put his top line on NZT. Also NYR has used NZT for the majority of this season so they have to be counted in the top 5 as using it.Tampa Bay GM wrote:Just a note re: NZT. Re: Activity Rewards
Sorry guys, mine isn't happening. I'd spent about two hours writing up a team summary as well as scouting blurbs and letter grades for every player on my pro roster as well as all interesting farmers and prospects. All it needed was a couple finishing touches and a final proofread and it would've been done. Instead, I bought a new laptop (so I could give my existing one to the old lady so she could play The Old Republic with me) and it was the one file I forgot to back up because I'd saved it on my desktop instead of the documents folder. So yeah, that's gone now. Best of luck to everyone else in the activity rewards.

Maybe if you hadn't spent more than half of those 2 hours writing [s]erotic fanfiction about[/s] an extremely thorough investigation into the qualities of Shane Doan you would have finished earlier.
This post might have been funnier if the strikethrough tag worked. Probably not.

Adam: it totally sounds like the modern "dog ate my homework" excuse, but it's not like I'm asking for an extension or anything. Also, when I make shit up I normally try to spin it in a way that doesn't make me look like a fucking retard.
Dan: I'm not gonna lie, man. I think there might have been three paragraphs out of twelve that didn't involve some kind of gushy superlative praise for Doan:
"Connolly benefits directly from the space Shane Doan creates on the ice."
"Boedker, despite not playing on an even-strength assignment with Doan, is enjoying a breakout season. Moreover, Phoenix's second scoring line as a whole has consistently outperformed expectations due to the toll taken on the opposition's checking lines in their futile attempts to keep Shane Doan contained."
Etc.

Re: Activity Rewards
Why wouldn't I hit on those picks? It's all just math. I do think it's fucking awesome though that later round picks from that draft actually have a shot at NHL careers... guys like Gal Koren, Quinton Howden, and Max Gardiner will definitely find homes on my 4th line. I do admit I was fortunate to have a couple extra picks (especially Calgary's 1st) but I think my 2011 draft has a chance to be better. If both Serville and Labate boost to 7X, it's not even close.Commissioner (CBJ) wrote:If you hadn't hit on every draft pick you made in 2010, I'd let you be in on the rewards anyway.

The new laptop was $1800, but I didn't HAVE to do it... she's just no good at spending money on herself so I knew she'd just suffer with her crappy old notebook if I didn't do anything about it.

Well, at least the ceiling boost went to a guy with 10 PE who can't do much worse than terrorizing the AHL. Now all we have to do is make sure all of the good pot boosters are gone by the time Bub gets to his first 5th round pick and nobody wins!

Re: Activity Rewards
Activity Rewards for February:
Just like last year, we will be doing a Live Trade Deadline chat on the main page for both the NHL Trade Deadline and also our EHEC Trade Deadline. The NHL Trade Deadline is, as it always is, at 3 pm EST, on February 27. Our deadline will also be that day, with the deadline being 11 pm EST.
We will have a front-page chat from 12 pm-3 pm, I'll have to leave around 2 for a few minutes to take my fiance to work. Our EHEC Trade Deadline chat will be sometime that evening, probably 8-11 PM EST or so.
To be eligible for this month's activity rewards, you will have to attend one of these two live chats and check in with me. GMs who stick around and are contributing members (at my discretion) will each get two entries for the rewards while any GM who just checks in and is mostly quiet will receive just one entry.
I will announce the rewards in the EHEC Trade Deadline chat on the night of February 27.
It's good to get together and talk with the GMs and I imagine most of you will be looking at last minute trade possibilities, so I hope we make this a good time.
