2020 Draft Review

The Rangers 2020 Draft wasn't stacked with tons of picks, but they team felt they had good spots to get valuable young players.

Round 2 (Pick 44): Sam Colangelo
With their earliest selection, in the middle of the second round, the Rangers nabbed Sam Colangelo. Colangelo is a big winger, already 6'2 and 205 lbs for an 18-year-old. He's fairly balanced overall, though, and is not an offensive liability. He has a lot of talent for a middle second rounder.

NYR hopes in a few years he could be a strong 2nd/3rd liner for years to come.

Round 2 (Pick 46): Justin Baron
Not much will be said about Justin Baron - not because the Rangers didn't appreciate his talent. He looks to be a great defensive-defenseman for years to come. But he was ultimately packaged in the huge Rick Nash blockbuster to LA. The Rangers wish him luck there and think he will end up patrolling blue lines for years to come.

Round 3 (Pick 72): Lukas Reichel
Lukas Reichel was still around in the 3rd when the Rangers got up to pick. They were happy he was. Reichel comes from a hockey family, and while he needs to work on his size and strength as many younger players do, he has explosive offensive upside. The Rangers are excited to see how he develops and warn opposing goalies not to leave much net open.
