The 2019-2020 season was quite a ride for a first time GM.

After a remake on-the-fly to get skill, the Rangers added Tommy Novak, Ryan Suter, and Ryan Johansen as the biggest names.

Individually, players made great strides. Novak put up 71 pts (26+45) playing alongside Dal Colle (39+35), the Rangers captain and star of today and the future.

Dal Colle ranked 9th in the NHL in goals and Novak was 6th in assists. Suter rounded out the top 10 in assists, which was tops among defensemen.

Johansen (31+28) scored over 30 for the first time since his crazy 41g 14/15 season, showing he has a lot left in the tank as he's yet to turn 28.

All that aside, the Rangers put up 84 points, a slide from last year, but within the average of the last 3. It was enough to tie for the 8th seed, but tiebreakers fell against them and it was their first failure to qualify since 13/14.

2020 OFFSEASON:

Disappointment? Sure, but after promising a short rebuild, the city and the organization are ready for a return to form.

To that end, the first move of the off-season for the Rangers was a doozy. They moved some core depth pieces but picked up Jonathan Toews. Toews was an offensive powerhouse for the Redwings (45+37) and was second in the league in goals. He's scored over 40 in 7 of the last 8 years. The top forward the Rangers were looking for to help Dal Colle and Novak has hopefully arrived from the rebuilding Wings.

Where else will the team go? Is Dal Colle still safe from the rebuild? Will Seth Jones be the foundation of the defense or is he destined to be moved for help elsewhere?
