Confirmed. I like Murray, but he's got a large contract for a 3rd pairing dman and I think I can easily replace him with Grant or Petrecki should Lidstrom refuse my offer. More importantly, Lidstrom is still the best defenseman in the league and I can't let a chance to sign him slip by. Sateri's a decent backup but redundant with Greiss.

Note: I am of the understanding that Lidstrom's age will be bumped down to 39 for the contract offer I make him.

I agree....I wanted to move Lidstrom and give him a shot at a cup. I will not be good enough this season to win. I respect lidstrom and this is a shot he deserves. I received a defenseman back that will play solid minutes for me. If he does sign I will also receive a young backup goalie.

Reasoning: Detroit gets a very serviceable player back in Murray and with the lower cap and chance that Lidstrom won't sign, there's enough risk here to acquire a player of Lidstrom's caliber with the return agreed upon by both parties.
