Calgary trades

T. RUUTU

to Dallas for

MCCAULL
WOLSKI
2019 2ND ROUND PICK (LA)

Wasn't planning to resign ruutu, so I figured I'd get done assets :D

Although both Wolski and McFaull are both solid two-way players whose value goes higher come play-off with their experience, abbrasivness and consistency. I search for a little bit more of a flexibility. I may or may not re-sign Ruutu. I like his versatility though. Hope it helps both sides for what we need/want to accomplish

Wolski (71)
McFaull (90)

Ruutu (77)

CGY will be in cap hell with Matthews’ new contract...

Dallas, you my friend, need to teach CGY instead of taking advantage of him.

I asked him about his cap situation and he said he'll be ok and he wanted the trade. He actually likes Wolski and I'm not actually taking anything from him. I tried to be as fair as possible. But thanks for your concerns.

I'm not too worried about the value in the trade itself but, as for Calgary's cap situation...

Code: Select all

Under contract 42.28
Milan Lucic 5.68	Dmitry Kulikov	7.88	Christopher Gibson	1.30
James van Riemsdyk 5.64	Brent Burns	5.88	Cory Schneider 0.66
Nathan MacKinnon 4.44	Brent Seabrook	5.52
Gabriel Vilardi 2.00	Johan Alm	0.80
Nico Hischier 2.00
Jimmy Vesey 0.48

Notable RFAs 13.45
Auston Matthews 9.00	Morgan Rielly	4.45

Total 55.73
That's with 14 players and ignoring some players they'll presumably want to re-sign. You add in Wolski and McFaull and they're already over the cap (61.55M) with only 16 players. Even without the trade, if they were to fill out the roster with minimum salary players, they'd still be over the cap.

I'm not going to argue or be defiant / stubborn. I think that it's a good fair deal for both sides. It's up to you all then. However you decide I'll keep that smile on my face and be generous. Won't be angry at all

:)

We don't keep careful track of team's cap numbers during the offseason, but we wouldn't normally allow a trade that put a team way over the cap without some indication of how the GM plans to get under again. None of the players in this deal have very much value given their contracts but cap space itself is valuable, so I can't approve this without more justification from Calgary's side.

Martin and I have talked it over, and agreed to mutually cancel the deal.

I'm too new at this to deal with the cap situation I would find myself in.

Sorry for wasting everyone's time.

It's totally ok :) I'll be happy to help you along the way.
Like I said @ Discord. I don't do deals with new GMs till November. We all need to learn :)
