2014 Olympics

Let's keep this all in one thread.
Post if you're interested in running a team. First 12 to respond are in.
So far, BOS, SJ, NYR, STL, and TOR have expressed their interest in the other thread. So seven more spots are available. Teams will be picked at random for the interested GMs. I will allow GMs to pick their own Olympic teams. Injuries will not carry over to the regular file. Nothing will carry over to the regular file since GMs are picking their own teams. There would be a conflict of interest there. So it's all for fun and bragging rights. I will collaborate with teams who cannot fill a full roster. Also, I will be making the goaltenders for the lesser conferences pretty skilled so that upsets are actually plausible.

Damn, my plan to pick only players from divisional opponents and run them for 90 second H&G shifts until they die is foiled

Is there an easy way to filter players by country in EHM or in Player Scout?

Yep, there's a program available at fhockey.com that lists players and staff by country. Go to the download page at
http://ehm.fhockey.com/utilfix.php and download "Nation List Creator."

Thanks!
Some of these teams have slim pickings, but there should be at least 7-8 competitive teams out there.

Fair question. Considering it's the Olympics, is hit & grind really realistic?

Need four more GMs by my count so that we can fill out all 12 teams. I'd like to start going on this so I can do the roster construction with time to spare.
Only restriction on roster construction, outside of nationality, obviously, is that players injured in our file now with injuries that would cover the time period of the Games or leading up to the Games cannot participate.

Come on guys. If I can't fill all 12 teams, I'm not going to do the file. Let's start getting some more volunteers.

So one team left? Maybe just give whoever gets Slovenia a second team, since there's not much Slovenia can do besides put Kopitar and Mursak on the top line.

I will be drawing names on Monday and be in touch with the GMs for selecting the roster.

Suddenly, 21 new Slovenians appear in the file.

Drawing teams later this morning or early afternoon.
The 12 GMs:
LA, WPG, TB, CGY, MTL, ANA, TOR, STL, BOS, SJ, NYR, PHX
My only line restriction will be that hit & grind will not be allowed. You're not going to see a lot of hitting on the big ice and there aren't a whole lot big hitters on most teams. Other than that, any tactic for any amount of time is fair game.
One other thing: Your backup goaltender must play at least one game. Coaches like to get the backup a game, generally against a weaker team, so I'd like to keep this idea in play for our sim.
As I said, players injured leading up to the Games or injured for a length of time that exceeds the start of the Games will not be eligible to play. I will work with the GMs given the smaller countries to make their teams as competitive as possible.
Everybody will carry the maximum 23 players.
I will also allow you to name your own coaching staff. HC, three assts, and a physio. Can hold any job title in the regular file.
For the smaller countries who won't have many staff members available, we will create some and we will elevate their attributes as a way to try and close the gap between the bigger teams. Like I said, I will also make those goaltenders a bit stronger in hopes that they can "steal" a game like the small countries occasionally do.
Because GMs are picking the teams, nothing will carry over from the Olympic file. Just bragging rights at stake.
Fast-simming will not be available to you past pool play because I'm not going to set this up as an international tournament where it automatically generates the semis and medal round. I don't want the standard-issue nine-goal games. If you make it to the quarters, you'll have to make the game yourself in schedule.ehm.
This will be a separate savefile, so I will include instructions on how to create it and get it working.
Will announce who gets who shortly.
Edit: One other thing. For the small countries, you'll need to take all of the players in the file with your country's nationality. So, for Slovenia, whoever is from there, they will be on your team. I will move their attributes up to at least make them serviceable, but they will be on your team. The exception, obviously, would be fictional draftees. We will use "created" players to try and close the gap by making them at least decent.

Please PM me with your roster decisions and/or questions. Once everything is finalized with the rosters behind closed doors, the GMs can unveil their rosters in a Team News post.

Aww, Damien Brunner, Raphael Diaz and Severin "Awesome" Blindenbacher aren't in our file. I guess we haven't had Euro/college FAs added in a while. Oh well, Streit, Baertschi, Niederreiter and Hiller will help the Swiss shut out Canada again. I'll strongly consider adding Luca Cunti to the roster too.

I'm not setting a date necessarily, but please keep my schedule in mind, so that would mean to get it done in a rather timely fashion so I can get the rosters organized and make things as easy as possible on myself.

Wow, exactly who I wanted. Finland is my second favorite hockey nation behind Canerduh of course.
I went to a Finland/Belarus game in 2010 and it was awesome. The Finnish fans were pretty crazy, and super friendly.

Quick note: If anybody finds somebody who is listed with the wrong nationality in the file, let me know. STL brought it to my attention that Zach Bogosian is listed as Canadian. He's not. There are probably others.
Bogosian's nationality will be updated tonight.

Uhhh I guess I'm not taking Baertschi then. You want us to post rosters here?
Any inclination to add guys like Brunner and Diaz to the file? I figure they're fringe NHLers at this point, like 74/62/60 and 70/70/65 of/df/con level respectively. It's been a while since college UFAs were added too. There are a few successful NHLers absent from the file:
2009: Tyler Bozak (in but sucks)
2010: Ben Scrivens, Chris Tanev, Tommy Wingels (in but sucks)
2011: Matt Read, Torey Krug
2012: Dan DeKeyser, maybe J.T. Brown and Brian Flynn?
2013: Nate Schmidt?

Sure, why not. We'll do some open market bidding on them. I imagine there are others. I'll do that on Monday. I'll also add Brunner and Diaz.
PM me the rosters and then I'm going to have each team post them in a Team News like an announcement in a couple weeks. I realized that I need to hold off on making the rosters so that guys will have accurate attributes at the start of the Olympics.
