Rangers send

WPG 1st, DET 2nd, LW Umberger 61, D Klesla 70

for
Detroit
Perry (70), DET 3rd in '14, Brodin (84)

I get the 1st round draft pick I wanted for Perry. He is in last year of contract and I have replaced him with Ovy on my first line. And I free up 5M + of space for more depth. Klesla gives me much needed help at the blue line, Umberger for me is just a throw in to fill the hole for Perry but he did score 24 for me VS Perry who should score 30+. I like Brodin but I have too many young D like him.

In a nutshell, I trade a star forward in his last year of his contract (who I cannot afford next year) and a good prospect for more depth and that first round guy.

Rangers agree.

Seems like a lot to give up but I can afford it. Perry finally gives me what should be a #1 center. His contract's up this year, but with Arnott coming off the books after the season, I'll be able to re-sign him. Brodin gives me another solid D prospect, but one who can step in right away and take Klesla's spot.

The picks were not easy to give up, but I have two other (quality) firsts and another 2nd, so I feel I'm okay there. Klesla is the toughest to give up, b/c he's just been so stable on the blueline for me. (Despite nearly killing Danny Briere.) He's not great at any one thing, but he's good at everything. I may regret trading him. Umberger, while not a throw-in, returns some offense Detroit's way.

Nice doing business with you, James.

Approved.

Will be entered post-sim.

Good value for both sides in a deal that helps James get under the cap and gives Pat a major piece to build around.

I guess they are travelling because I cannot use them in my lines. Means I need an emergency callup?

Advance the sim ahead a day and then set your lines. Traded players don't show up on your roster until the next day.
