I'm currently having Tim run the cap numbers for me. Those will be posted as soon as I get them.

This is probably a good time to remind everybody of our goalie games played rule. The max is 67. That includes games where they have to come in for a relief appearance, because there's no way of telling if they started or not. Some of you are going to run into trouble with that rule.

So far, the highest GP among goalies:

Luongo 39/43
Leclaire 39/40
Mason 38/43
Price 38/42
Helenius 37/39
Harding 37/43
Pickard 36/44
Pickard 36/41

You guys will definitely have to keep an eye on this.

Also, the 67 games max applies to the AHL level as well. Teams who need to be careful of this rule are:

Anaheim
Buffalo
Colorado
Detroit
Florida
Minnesota
Nashville
New Jersey
Ottawa
Pittsburgh
San Jose
Vancouver

Teams who are over the AHL maximum of 26:

Anaheim (29)
Dallas (29)
Detroit (30)
Edmonton (27)
Ottawa (32)
Phoenix (29)
Vancouver (28)

Will post cap numbers when I get them.

For some reason Jan Bulis was listed on your pro team (perhaps as an injury call-up). That's your $1.5M discrepancy.

$61.9. Buyouts are right, we cleared this up last time.

Bump.

Gotta take care of this stuff, guys. Get under the AHL roster limit and figure your salary cap situation out.

I should be okay on the AHL limit now I believe. I have two extra guys who are both injured so they don't count, but when they do come back to reclaim their roster spots, I will make more cuts.

I think if you've been over the cap for half the season, the only punishment (but an automatic punishment) is that you have to be that much under the cap for the rest of the season. No?

It's hard to keep everybody accountable for what essentially amounts to a hobby.

That being said, there's no excuse for being over the salary cap for half of the season.

I also can't really provide a lot of repercussions or instill fear in anybody because, at this point, every GM is irreplaceable because we aren't getting any new blood.

I think what I suggested would be fair, and the guys above the cap would probably agree. Why wouldn't it be fair? 25 of us had to waive or demote that extra 3rd or 4th liner to stay under the cap, and for those 5 guys who have played the first half of the season with that guy in their lineup, a penalty of only playing with 96.7% of their cap (if they were over by 2M, reduce their cap to 58M/60M=96.7%) seems fair. It is a small price to pay, but giving up a 5th rounder or whatever the penalty is to have an extra guy in the lineup for half the season is a price I'd pay any day of the week.

Didn't say it was unfair, and I don't have an issue with the idea. Though, similarly, like the NHL, teams should be allowed to exceed the cap in the second half by however much they were under it during the first half. I wish I could keep an automatically updated cap calculator on the forums because some people either don't know how to do it or are too lazy to do it. The Rulebook isn't easy to comprehend, though I've tried to make it as user-friendly as I can.

I understand it's frustrating that certain teams have no regard for the cap.

It's also hard to pinpoint what that number would be, in large part, because of injuries. Montreal was (probably) over the cap prior to the Hemsky injury, under it for a month, and now back over it because he insisted that his Malone deal not go through until Hemsky came back and the trade is now pro-rated because of when it was entered. Detroit has been over the cap all year. That I am aware of.

The cap penalties listed in the Rulebook have not been enforced, and that's my fault. They range from benching of starting goaltender to firing, with benching of players in between.

Encouraging personal accountability is one thing. Babysitting is another. Frankly, I don't want to do either one, but I don't see another solution.

There's no discussion about pulling Malone completely off? Only reason we did that trade was to include Malone for cap reasons. Now there was no point in even including him, since it didn't pull me under the cap since I'm paying him $2M. Deal was done a month before pro-rating. Should have been brought up then, no?

You were aware of the rule, were you not? If not, you should have been. We did it last year too.

We (Tommy and I) had a discussion. Deal was processed in January at your request. Therefore, it counts as a January trade, which includes a pro-rated salary for Malone.

Admittedly, I didn't know how much over the cap you were. If I had, I would have cautioned you on waiting until January for the Malone deal, but that's not my responsibility.

Yes, I was the one, as with Hemsky's $6.75M on LTIR I didn't need to move his $4.5M

Yes, I know we did pro-rated last year, but I was planning / figuring that all of Malone's $4.5M was going to NYR.

As I said, pretty silly that I added an extra pick to Pat to take Malone's $4.5M off the books and have me under the cap, and now that's not even happening. Should have just kept him.

I have to cut, I guess roughly $1.7 - $1.8M, with 50 % off, means I have to basically give somebody (making more than $4M) away for free.

Well, presumably you saw the post about pro-rated salaries and knew you still had Malone playing on your team, so...

You did get what, 41 games out of Malone? So if you want him to count for nothing, that's like asking to have a player on your roster for half of the season costing nothing. I know you can *effectively* do that by trading away players the day before pro-rating happens but that's an issue with they system that can be improved with some effort.

Yeah it's pretty silly considering we could have moved it up TWO WEEKS from the 15th to Dec 31 and the 4.5 completely would have came off.

When you want to take the time to track every salary as of the date the player was traded, like the NHL does, please, be my guest.

I mean I see the point that if salary tracking was done exactly like the NHL does, you'd be fine, but I'm pretty sure the NHL wouldn't allow half of a trade to be delayed for a month just cause.

For what it's worth, I wasn't over the cap for half of the season. Only recently. And mostly a bench guy. So basically I have been over Alex Grant VS Tim Heed for maybe a month. My record during that time is horrible.

Nevertheless, you can apply whatever penalty you seem fit.

The rulebook says I need to bench my starting goaltender. Therefore I will play slumping Toskala even though I am facing an important playoff spot nemesis St louis.

Sorry!

Here's what Tommy and I have decided to do with AHL players traded to new teams. Note, the players here are examples of January trades. February trades have a 67%/33% pro-ration split.

We'll use Jonas Brodin as the chief example, as he is the most expensive player of this rule. Jonas Brodin never played a game for the Detroit Red Wings this season. He will definitely play for the Rangers. So, the Rangers will be charged Brodin's 50% pro-ration ($1,000,000), and the Red Wings will not be charged anything. Since the player never suited up for his pro team, it doesn't seem right to charge him a pro-rated salary to his cap when he had no impact on the pro season.

Hannu Toivonen, listed as LA's backup, never played for Calgary. Therefore, he counts for $375,000 to LA's cap when on the roster, with no pro-rated charge to Calgary.

Another example is Ricard Blidstrand. Blidstrand did not play for the Coyotes, but could (and should) play for the Red Wings. His cap hit, for this season, would be $200,000.

Mike Reilly, if recalled by Toronto, would be another example. He never suited up for Phoenix. Same with Max Le Sieur.

Initially, the plan was to charge the previous team when the player was part of the NHL roster for his new team. But, that could lead to collusion because a team could call up said player to deliberately put the previous team over the cap and force them to play their backup against a rival team or something like that.

So, for AHL players traded during the pro-ration period: If the player did not play any NHL games for his previous team, the previous team is NOT charged any pro-ration if that player is called up by his new team. For the new team, that player will count for the pro-rated value (50% in January, 33% in February) of his cap hit when on the NHL roster.

I realize I'll probably get somebody bitching about a guy who was an injury replacement for a game or two, but it's just easier to keep track of it this way.

All of the players traded during the pro-ration period are listed in this thread.

Well if we are retardedly suspending Brewer, one of them shouldn't count towards the cap, since neither are playing.

Can't be both ways here. Only one should count.

Also doesn't say anywhere in the rulebook that suspended players count towards the cap.

Can't be both ways here. Only one should count.

Also doesn't say anywhere in the rulebook that suspended players count towards the cap.
It also doesn't say that they are exempt from the cap.

So, I'm saying they count towards the cap.

You don't like it? Tough shit.

Nobody else bitches about the rules as much as you do. The problem is not me or the league.

lol what rules do I bitch about? You, YOURSELF, not ehm randomly, suspended a player on a 2 week injury, and now are telling me if I want to call up a d-man from the farm, I have to start my back-up goalie.

I've already been fucked over by this pro-ration and had to not only start Antii Niemi but Tobias Stephan, and now are hitting me again with this back-up goalie bullshit.

How retarded is that?

Seriously, sit back and think about that. This is dumb. if Brewer isn't playing, I shouldn't be penalized for calling up a d-man from the farm.

HOW DO SUSPENSIONS AFFECT THE CAP?

The salary of a player suspended for an on-ice incident continues to count against a team's cap. This was confirmed in September 2011 by Bill Daly, NHL deputy commissioner and chief legal officer, to BroadStreetHockey.com, clarifying a common misinterpretation of what is written in Exhibit 8 of the CBA in Section 5, P. 270, and in Section 50.10-c, P. 226.

Although the CBA says salary and bonuses that are not paid to suspended players do not count against the cap, Daly clarified that the forfeited salary is still paid, albeit to the Emergency Assistant Fund. "By agreement of the NHL and NHLPA, the player's full salary continues to count against the team's cap," Daly told the website.

Please note that CapGeek.com's archive inaccurately reflects the impact of suspensions on the cap for 2009-10 and 2010-11. Suspensions are correctly accounted for in 2011-12 and beyond.

Why should all 29 other guys have to abide by the rules then? EHEC is the premier EHM league on the internet, and that is in large part because of the rulebook. 95% of the GMs in this league abide by these rules without any enforcement required from the commissioner. You've played nearly all of the season over the cap. You really shouldn't be complaining about rules that were in place before the season even started. It's mind boggling how much bitching you do considering how high your team is in a simulated standings. Then again, you're allowed 60+M.

I don't care, Brad.

The suspension rules have been in place all year long. Doesn't matter what player gets hurt or who commits the penalty. Everybody has dealt with it at some point this season. And everybody has dealt with it within the salary cap.

Get under the cap and stay under the cap or we'll have another orphaned team in EHEC. I have zero tolerance from this point forward.

I only started over the cap since I'm paying $2.25M to Ryan Malone (which was January 15th), which I shouldn't be paying either. There is bullshit #1. I was over the cap for a week, waived Pahlsson, and now have been back under the cap for a few weeks now until this retarded suspension occurred. Bullshit #2.

No idea what you're talking about with being over the cap for the entire season. Please elaborate on that. Bullshit #3.

And if you think my team is high in the standings because I'm at $60.44M instead of $60.0M then that's pretty foolish. Bullshit #4.

I couldn't even name 5 EHM leagues out there anymore still running.

Another orphaned team wouldn't do you any good. We both know that.

I guess I'll have to get out my rocket science degree to find out how to get under the cap.......oh yes.....demoting Weber. Amazing!!! I don't know how I came up with that.

Wouldn't bother me one bit. Orphaned teams don't piss me off.

Yep, well, this is your third warning, so it'll be hard to win without Price, Kostitsyn, and Hemsky. Guess that's the one scenario where I don't mind you being over the cap, since I'll have to call up some of your fine AHL depth.

Every time Tim runs cap numbers, you're over. So, since I've done step one and step two of the salary cap penalties, we're on to step three. Lucky for you, you play NYI, so you've got a shot anyway.

Tim did the cap numbers once, and I was over, after all the pro-ration.

Why wouldn't I have Price, Kostitsyn, or Hemsky?

BTW demote Weber and you're still over the cap, which means you were over before the Brewer suspension - I believe since the Burrows trade. #LogicAndReason
