Columbus receives
D Tomas Kaberle
Phoenix receives
D François Beauchemin
In a perfect world, Kaberle would retire a Coyote, but the financial reality is that a lot of raises are going to be handed out next season, and there's no way I could keep both Kaberle and Ed Jovanovski. Trading Kaberle allows me the flexibility to lock up all my 2010 draftees (and Jordan Staal) and hopefully keep JovoCop around a couple more years. While cap flexibility was a primary consideration here, this move isn't a straight salary dump as Beauchemin will make a nice 3rd-pairing blueliner with his balanced defensive abilities. He might even score once or twice. Hopefully Mark Alt can step up and the power play can weather losing Kaberle. Thanks Adam, always a pleasure. Best of luck to you.
Phoenix approves this deal.

Kaberle CON: 74; Beauchemin CON: 75
I, in a way, begrudgingly, accept this deal. Beauchemin is a spare part for me, while I think Kaberle can have more of an impact. It gives me a real mess on defense when McIlrath gets back from suspension, but that's still about a month away, so I may look to make another move. My real problem with this deal is paying Kaberle an extra season, but, I'll figure something out.
I'm adding a better player and a guy who should help me generate more offense at even strength.
