Reasoning:

This deal can come bite me back in the ass if Detroit keeps performing how they are... However, a 1st this year is always more fun than a 1st next year. When Paul Ranger comes back, I would have had Paul Martin on my 3rd string without any special team minutes, so Ian White can fill that role and Martin will take Despres' spot and be used to his full value. Steve Sullivan will join Daymond Langkow to help J.T. Miller develop on the 3rd line.

I can score goals but I am giving up way too many.

Depres is another young potential star in this league for which I can pair up with Mike Green for years to come and his potentially better than the pick I would have had. Plus he is reasonably signed long term

Furthermore, I accumulate more draft picks without giving up too much unless I start losing like crazy
