Reasoning:

Had some prior talks with the gunslinger in Dallas about Mr. Brewer, but that fell through. So, I had to find other alternatives to fill a veteran role on defense. Morris is a solid fit with 74 LE and some valuable offensive skill. With the addition of Morris and Martinez I hope to see more contributions from the back end on the PP.

Morris also has similar defensive skills as Girardi, so I lose nothing there. On Boston's end Girardi is a younger and cheaper version of the same defenseman.

Dan Girardi is a cheaper version of Derek Morris with the same contract, but 5 years younger. Their overalls are virtually identical, and their attributes are close enough for my liking that we can get by. The million + in cap-space saved gives me more options as well, and how can I say no to moving up in what should be a strong draft?
