WSH - TB

To TB: Colby Cohen (78)

To WSH: 1st PIT 2012 and 3rd PIT 2013*

* Pending the approval of this deal, if rejected this trade is null/void

Reasoning: Tough times right now for TB's d-core, Cohen will develop into a physical force with playmaking skills that offset his inability to shoot or handle the puck. I never really liked draft picks anyway.

To Tampa Bay:
Colby Cohen [78]

To Washington:
Pittsburgh's first round pick in 2012 (28th overall)
Pittsburgh's third round pick in 2013*

* Pending the approval of this deal

I'm not a huge fan of overdeveloped ceilings, and I'm tired of waiting for Cohen's monster defensive ceilings to overdevelop. Trading Bittner and Cohen at the same time weakens my defensive prospect pool but I see a few more balanced prospects I could pick up at #28 that are more certain to reach their potential.

Cohen's rights can't be traded. Is this a sign-and-trade then?

Yes, unless Cote objects to Cohen's contract offer.

Which we know he won't.

Agree to above

Approved.

Committee rationale: We realize that Cohen has monster PL and HI ceilings that he is almost guaranteed to hit. That's the attractive feature of Cohen. With a CON near 80, and Justin's four-month-long distaste for my draft class, he doesn't mind paying the price for a player who, like a draft pick, needs to develop.
