Columbus confirms. I couldn't pass on the chance to unload Smyth's salary while getting two potential pieces to my future. With any luck, I can either take my two 3rds for a 2nd or find a guy that I really like with that 72nd pick.

It blows to lose Smyth, who I gave up Hejda, Ruth, and Ellington for, because of his high LE, high CON and good intangibles for my team, but the high LE didn't seem to help me in the playoffs and Smyth didn't seem to fit on any of my lines. I'd rather get a high ceiling defenseman prospect in Gunnarsson and pick up a 3rd.

Also, the Smyth money will hopefully go to keeping Niedermayer after his arbitration award, which will have to be more than what he makes now.
