Elias replaces Datsyuk and will probably center young backstrom and Perry. Teubert is another good young talent.

Not easy to deal 84 points Patrick Elias, but i've to cut salaries. Really happy to get a good 2nd pick and young prospect Mirko Hoefflin in return.

After much deliberation, the Committee has voted to approve this trade.

I won't bullshit anybody. The sole reason that this trade was approved is because of Hoefflin's horrendous PE rating of 15. While we feel that the trade makes zero sense for Detroit, especially trading a high 2nd round pick while clearly participating in a rebuild, our job is not necessarily to look at the philosophy behind a deal, but rather, look at the value from both sides. Teubert is a serviceable 6th defenseman on a mediocre team. A future 3rd may be useful to move up in this draft or move up in next year's draft. Maybe.

Elias is still a good player who should not experience much of a decline given the EHEC Retirement policy. Hoefflin has the potential to put up a good amount of points if he is able to stay on the ice. But, that remains to be seen.

Again, while we have no clue the rationale from Detroit on this trade, Hoefflin's horrible PE and Elias's value to a rebuilding team and the fact that he would currently make up a top line of Elias-Datsyuk-Perry, or maybe the first overall pick in this year's draft, is definitely apparent.

This trade passed through by the narrowest of margins.
