Accept. Getting younger and MDZ only has a couple of good years left.

Not putting bees in anyone's bonnet, but remember retention rules, calculations, and ensure this is what you expected:
MDZ has 3 years on his contract. The trade proposes 25% retained (1/4). So the cap hit is reduced to 3/4th's its total value.
PHI has played 39 games this year, so this year its (43/82 + 2)*5050000 = 12.748m (rounded) left to pay out.
PHI is retaining 25% of this, so: .25*(43/82+1)*5050000=1.925m (rounded).
If PHI wishes to pay that all this year, it's 1.925 / (43/82) = 3.67m against the cap. Or its 1.925 this year and next.
12.748 - 1.925 = 10.823. This is what TB owes him, which equates to: 10.823m/(43/82+2)=4.278m - prolly rounded down to 4.275m?
Dan needs to check this, I am dumb. But if this is correct, need to make sure this was understood and no one was expecting his salary to be (3.787.500) which is the number if you straight up 5050000x.75. Which isn't how it can be done on these.

While I failed to consider the correct calculations, the math still maths for me to meet my cap requirements.

You can only retain for 2 seasons of a player's cap hit, not the 3rd and last on MDZ's contract. That only really changes the max that can be retained, though (the cap hit doesn't change each season), so it's not relevant.
The important part of the math is that the retention effectively reduces MDZ's cap hit for 2.5 seasons (rounding up to 41 games). If PHI wants to pay off the retention in the remaining half-season, the penalty will be a factor of 2.5/0.5 = 5x larger. That is, reducing MDZ's cap hit by 1M for his entire contract will be a 5M penalty for the rest of the season, which PHI cannot currently afford if they're also taking back Stanley. Spreading out the retention through next season would change the ratio to 2.5/1.5 = 1.67, which is much more feasible. So tl;dr no, PHI definitely can't afford to pay it all of this season, and to spread it over 2 seasons would cost PHI 1.67M in penalties per 1M reduction in MDZ's cap hit.
If you wanted to be creative, technically TB can retain on Stanley's contract and choose to spread it out over 2 seasons, which is effectively borrowing cap space from next season. That's not really something I intended but is legal
at the moment, though you probably shouldn't be allowed to pay off 1 season (and in practice as little as 1/3 of a season) of retention over an extra full season.

PHI is retaining 25% of this, so: .25*(43/82+1)*5050000=1.925m (rounded).
This is the error, FYI; although you can only retain for 2 seasons, you can't just apply the retention for 2 and then have the cap hit go back up in years 3+. If PHI only retains 1.925M then MDZ's cap hit becomes approx (12.75-1.925)/2.5 seasons = 4.33M. Which TB can afford until Kuznetsov comes off LTIR in ... I think mid-February? But PHI only has ~450k cap room right now, and just swapping MDZ with Stanley only adds another 750k, so I don't see how they can afford to apply so much retention this season without making another move.

Didn't I calculate his cap hit to be static over 3 years?
12.748 - 1.925 = 10.823. This is what TB owes him, which equates to: 10.823m/(43/82+2)=4.278m

Your math there isn't wrong, it just doesn't work out to anywhere near a 25% reduction in cap hit as TB wanted (or even 25% of the remaining amount retained). But I see PHI has cut down another 600k from their roster and can still temporarily demote Edstrom and/or Savoie if they need to so I suppose the trade can go through with the "half of max" retention, adjusting for whatever the actual games played end up being at the time.

4.275m?
Updated math as I'm entering it now: (42/82 + 2)*5.05M = 12.7M left to pay out (rounded), and .25*(42/82+1)*5.05M = 1.9M (rounded) to retain.
PHI's penalty is spread out over the next season and a half so 1.91M/(42/82+1)=1.25M (rounded). Ironically, that bolded part was the only actually wrong calculation. 10.8M/(41/82+2) = 4.3M left for TB.

So for clarification can someone tell me how much cap I am actually retaining for this season 100%?
And 2. Hemming Con dropped from 53 to 23 if that can be fixed. Thanks!
