STL - ATL

To St.Louis
Dan Hamhuis (82)
To Atlanta
Ian Cole (75)
Riley Sheahan (81)
Tampa Bay 2011 3rd round pick
I'm always looking to get better defensively, especially since Lehtonen has let me down so many times this season. Hamhuis is a Top 2 Dman for many teams, so obviously there's a price to pay.Tough to see Sheahan leave since I was expecting big things from the kid in the future but the opportunity to put my hands on a very solid two way Dman like Dan Hamhuis without trading one of my core players was too hard to pass on. Atlanta acquired two young players with a bright future ahead + a 3rd. Thanks Tom!

I initially added Hamhuis to bring some legit NHL talent to my current blueline. He's performed very well, a plus player on a bottom three team in the league. Even at the time of the trade with Montreal my second was more like a late first.
My other moves around draft time were aimed toward building up a core of young talent. Adding Hamhuis helped me reach the cap floor, but was not aligned with my team philosophy. I believe the return obtained in this deal exceeds giving up a second round pick.
Cole fits in well with the higher end defense I have coming. While Sheahan could be a solid two-way third liner. The third rounder replenishes one of the multiple early picks I've dealt away.
Atlanta accepts and good luck to STL making the playoffs.

Cole had a consistency drop from 75 to 18.
