Tonight, I play homage to the great Undertaker as there were three (3), yes THREE casket matches tonight...

First up, its DET vs. CHI as they never lose the lead, despite CHI giving them everything they had in period 1 and 2, before just running out of gas in period 3. Bern, you did a hellofajob yet again. But it's the President's trophy Wings, 4-1, onto the 2nd round, since, ever?

Next the bell tolls in San Jose as Dan goes up 2-1 in the first and its a coast until Radek Faksa puts it away with about 4 minutes left in the game. Even in PPs, but its not even close in shots. Two time cup winner Martin packs it up in the 1st round for the 3rd year in a row.

Finally its a 3rd bell-ringer of the evening as despite COL getting possibly the sole, or near sole, PP goal of the playoffs, the firepower of the Wild elevate them with goals in the 3rd from Hischier and Laffy. No doubt Josh, we know you're disappointed, but you did what NO ONE could do in 15 years. We all lose in R1 but what you've brought to COL for the long haul is incredible. But for tonight, its all cheers for Zaq and the 4-1 MIN win, as they build on playoff success from last year.

I said finally but only because for LA/NSH its just another game, and its a hard fought one. Despite LA going up 3-0, NSH battles back hard, but LA and Taylor Hall get their 4th in the 3rd, and that's it in regulation. It's onto their own version of the casket match in Game 6.

I admit, I was not expecting this. Like, I knew my team was good enough to win a round, but it's EHM, it's fickle. I very much assumed I'd end up where Josh is (something I did not expect either).

Sorry Bern, you deserved better than 5 games (as did Martin and Josh).

To answer your question, it appears as though the Wings made it past the first round in 2012-13. So we're now 2-4 in playoffs series (or 2-3 if you believe the website)

Entirely predictable. Thanks EHM. Wake me up when the draft starts.

Sheepishly pointing out we did split the season series and this Wild team isn't terrible...
I uh, gotta figure out my special teams. (Then again, I think they made us look worse than we are all year.)

Yah Colorado FINALLY getting a playoff spot - and a good one at that - unfairly overshadowed the work you did too Zaq. You've taken a Wild team that had a lot of promise but no vision to a very successful and talented team. Team went from mostly 60s in points for a handful of years and NO playoffs since year 1, and you got them 89 last year and a WCF trip, and now 91 points and into the 2nd round. Awesome stuff.

Same to you Martin - it was good clean fun.

I'm not sure how I finally ended up allowing just one goal in a playoff game, but otherwise, the series leading scorers ended up being Josh Jacobs and Fabian Lysell, with Gustav Forsling's +8 the team-best, all exactly as I planned.

Rookie Ryan Leonard was all over the ice in these five games, Tony-Bo-V was just skating around out there, getting caved in. Best Avs forwards did not have a better series than the best Wild forwards, and it's hard to bag on Svechnikov for shooting 37% so we won't. But the model!

Not sure an Avs had a truly putrid series other than Seider and Alzner, and whatever we did with the math provides an opportunity for rare props (in the mail!) to Dylan Heatherington, who avoided high danger like a real pro in no risk of prompt demotion.
