Minnesota - Tampa Bay

To Minnesota:
Jeff Halpern (73)
Ben Guite (70)
Louis Leblanc (75)
To Tampa Bay:
Brent Burns (77)
Carson McMillan (74)
3rd Round MIN 2011
Reasoning: I didn't plan on making any more big deals for the foreseeable future, but after WAS and CAR making some big time acquisitions in Koivu and Markov I felt something needed to be done in order to keep up with these Eastern conference juggernauts. Brent Burns is a beast, plays extremely well at both ends of the ice and while his positioning attribute will come back down to earth in the next few seasons he's still young and developing in other areas. This also will ease the pain of Zdeno's departure this coming off-season.
It really sucks to give up Leblanc, within the next 4-5 seasons he'll develop into a awesome two-way winger with a 99 shooting rating. I think having a 99 shot on your team will become an EHEC standard for a contending team in the coming years, but luckily I have Ryan Stoa who is set to hit the same mark in the next few years. Having to move Halpern and Guite sucks, there great bottom 6 forwards but to make the money work the had to go. McMillan is just a cheap depth guy in case one of my other newly acquired bargain bin players get hurt.
$$$: Now one would assume with a 6 million dollar penalty and being inches from the cap there is no way I can take on Burns contract. Think again!
Current Salary: $55,360,606 (this is including Tyrell's assignment to the AHL, which has not been reflected in the Team Financials thread)
Halpern + Guite = -$3,100,000
Skrastins = -$800,000 (will be assigned to Norfolk(AHL) after trade)
= $51,460,606
Burns = +$3,550,000
Adams and Pouliot = +$800,000 (both were recently signed at 400k per)
= $55,810,606
Weeeeee, under by about 90k. Sry for the length, tldr. gl MIN
