PIT agrees. I misjudged how much Koivu was going to decline last year when I decided to give him the second year, and I was going to just eat the contract until the opportunity to add Richards came along, but I can't keep him and sign Richards. Buyout spread over 2 years was an option, but paying to get out of the contract saves us taking any dead cap next year.
Puistola is a good young player with a lot of offensive upside, but he hasn't been able to get much PT here. Thanks to some good booster success, Dach is one of a whole bunch of young grinder-type forwards we have so we can afford to let him go.
