As interim GM of the Habs, I accept. Downing was unlikely to be re-signed with several defencemen being impending UFAs. Stephens is cheaper and younger than any of them and brings a different element, which also allows me to part ways with one of the more expensive re-signs if desired. How ironic that Downing to Montreal was my first trade as Avs GM, and now moving him again is my first trade as Habs interim...
