Want to double-check my figures for Ryan Callahan before making an official offer:

he's a 68/72, for a 70 avg, and has a current salary of 2.3M. (He was signed to this contract pre-EHEC.) So he's subject to a 30% salary decrease, yes? Plus another -100K for his sub-65 ratings in PL and FA?

So.... 2.3M - 690K (30% decrease) - 200K (attributes) = 1.41M

Is this right?

Re: NY Rangers Offers/Extensions

An award has been determined in the arbitration case of Simon Gagne.

NYR comps: Roy, Kostitsyn, Sullivan; proposed 4.2M per year

Arbitrator comps: Sedin, Savard, Marleau, Kariya

Obviously, all of these comps run the gamut between 6.5M and 2.75M. This is a wide range. Of NYR's proposed players, Derek Roy is the closest in terms of attributes and stats. However, where Roy lacks on DF and LE, Gagne does not. Roy makes 4M per. The difference in LE, with it at such a premium in the file, and defensive upgrade are certainly worth more than $200,000.

Marleau was signed through NYR allowing him to go to free agency and then matching an offer to retain him. He will not really fit in with these comps because of that. If anything, his market value is likely north of 5M.

The one thing Gagne lacks that a majority of these comps have is the ability to win a faceoff. But, that said, Gagne is still a good two-way player, who as my arbitrator noted, had a positive TA-GA differential. Also, he has been part of two 110+ point seasons with his team.

My arbitrator proposed 5M per season, citing that Gagne may have played his way to a slight decrease in salary based on a mediocre CON and a disappointing regular season.

In the end, I also feel that Gagne deserves more than the 4.2M proposed. I will award Gagne exactly in the middle at 4.6M per season. His LE and good two-way play are valuable assets, along with age not really being a factor, but he does not warrant 5+M given the other players in the file making that much.

Gagne will be awarded 3 years (plus TO) at 4.6M. Pat, you can accept/reject this ruling.
