Well, at least we scored 5. Can't say that's happened in a while.

Three games to go in preseason. Jesper Bratt is the most improbable hero so far.

How's this for improbable: Detroit has the best powerplay in the league at this point, 33.3%. We also only have 5 goals total :D

Interestingly we're also 6th on the penalty kill (85.19%), which I'm pretty sure means that the worst team in the league, the only team without a point, has the best special teams :D

With 42 penalties, the Rangers are really going to need to learn some discipline

On a happier note though, with 3 games left, finally time to sprinkle in actual starters to get a few reps in.

G1: Eichel/Nash/Lindholm
G2: Novak/Toews/Suter
G3: Dal Colle/Trouba

The prospects have had a good camp, but the AHL is ready to see who is trying to compete for the small ratings bump with a successful campaign!

Yeah preseason is getting real now, working in more regulars. Barbashev, Marchenko, Kuokkanen, Shaw, Beattie, Galin, Bereglazov, Murphy getting ice. And we're about to start an actual NHL goalie for the first time.

Yeah, EHM loves to calculate great games for goalies when they get heavily outshot. Anyone who's done an expansion draft can attest to this.

Guy posts a sub-.900 save percentage every year of his career on mostly winning teams. Then he spends one year with an awful team facing more rubber than ever, and *checks notes* becomes the second coming of Ken Dryden. That's EHM all right.

I forgot to sim the shootout for Arizona but hey, it's preseason. 2 more games to go.

The game totals on the standings page appear to be missing games (not just ties) so I'll have to figure that out once I've settled the points system debate.

The total games played seems to be correct, but I do see missing games from the W-L-OTL record. From what I've seen, I think it is to do with OT games, as Anaheim/Colorado, Arizona/Los Angeles, Vancouver/San Jose all resulted in ties and are all missing a game from their record.

edit: ya, I'm 95% sure that's from OT games. New Jersey/Boston, Montreal/Pittsburgh, and Tampa Bay/Carolina are also ties + missing games.

Noted playmaker Mikko Koivu leads the preseason with 9 assists. 5 more days to go before the 2020-21 season starts for real... can you smell it?

... having said that, it occurs to me that I probably need to re-do the schedule import. I think I'll copy the schedule from the 2011-12 season, which I believe I actually did correctly by switching Columbus and Winnipeg's games. It is kind of silly that Columbus is in the Southeast but there isn't a particularly compelling alternative. On the other hand, it would make a lot more sense for Winnipeg and Minnesota to switch places since Minny's closer to all of the central teams than Winnipeg is, so I may do that (plus more Canadian rivalries). Since we're removing the division leader seeding it doesn't matter as much which division you're in, other than that I'm pretty sure the NHL scheduled more inter-divisional games than inter-conference.

The real schedule starts on October 6 so we'll have a decent wait to sort out waiver day and get everyone in decent cap shape; not much to be done about that. I have found a few copies of the original 2012-13 schedule that we could use, but that one starts on October 11 so that isn't any help.

I think both did a good job. Would've been cool to see a gold home jersey for Vegas though. It's in their name after all.

Gold jerseys could make it up for them a bit. I'll just be happy when there will be Whalers again and Ducks finally switch back the Mighty F*cking Ducks. I think those jerseys and logo were just beautiful and unique. They were my favorite team when I was a kid. With Kariya, Selanne, Rucchin and Hebert. Which team has the most beautiful jerseys in your opinion guys ?

I'd go with Mighty Ducks and Whalers obviously and I also think that Blue Jackets look gorgeous too. Maple Leafs and Canadiens are total classic to me. Absolutely beautiful for such a long time.

Also, did you see Sibir Novosibirsk jerseys from the KHL? They look amazing, check them out. Other than that, most of the KHL jerseys and logos look lame.

The Mighty Ducks jerseys were awesome, although I think they should leave the mighty out if they go back to them. Their current jerseys are probably the worst in the league - only Ottawa's can compete with them and they're finally getting rid of those.

I've always really loved Colorado's logo and colour scheme. Now that they've gone back to the mountains look it's even better.

I enjoy Dallas' look, and I like Nashville in yellow but they desperately need blue helmets.

Short story: After taking the bar exam a decade ago I basically vegged out and needed my brain to reset. NHL11 just came out - the first time Hockey Ultimate Team was available. I literally ran it like the stock market, I was on for 10+ hours a day, buying cards low, selling high. I put together full teams without paying a dime. There was a contest and I was the first person to post full teams (all 4 lines) of both the Sharks and the Blackhawks. Everyone said I must have paid thousands - jokes on them, just hundreds of hours of my life and mental sanity.

Anyway, the game announced I won and they sent me this:

Guys, I appreciate the enthusiasm but I'm going to gently divert this discussion over to a more appropriate thread.
AvalancheGM wrote: Thu Sep 24, 2020 12:53 am Nashville would make more sense than Columbus in the Southeast.
Sort of; they're further south but also further west and while they're closer to the Florida teams they're further from Washington & Carolina and closest to St. Louis. Anyway, I don't want to move any more teams than necessary, so they'll stay put for now.

Back to preseason news: it's nearly over! 1 more game for each team over 3 more nights and we'll be set to start the season... a week after that, but hey, plenty of time to get rosters in order and cap hits sorted out.

Preseason's over for most of the East, with a couple of shutouts to boot. NJ had four forwards finish PPG+; will that last through the regular season? (no)

Kirby Dach with the hat trick and Jens Lööke assisting on all three to cap off a surprisingly good preseason for my nearly all rookie team. I'm assuming the heavy dose of home games is largely to thank.

Now to cut everybody.

Ya, I was thinking around draft time, with a league that mostly sticks to real life time, this must be the first time that EHEC had the draft before the real NHL did.

It's nominally October 1, although I think it would make more sense to have it start at 11:59 PM on October 2 since that's a Friday so let's do that.

One more set of games posted; tomorrow's the last day for preseason and then there will be a flurry of activity before the season opener on October 6. Whoo.
