Yeah, I noticed it. Sent a PM to my arbitrator. He said it'll be done tonight. Apologies.

I've been lax lately. I've got to get re-focused.

An award has been determined in the John Erskine arbitration.

NYR comps: Wallin, McLaren, Semenov
Arbitrator comps: The same

Determining Erskine without the use of EHEC FA contracts is difficult because there are a lot of players cut from the same cloth that have been signed as FAs.

NYR proposed 3 years at 1M per with a TO. My arbitrator agreed. In trying to find other comps, he found similar players and felt that the NYR proposed number was correct.

The difference between Erskine and Hejda is that Erskine has played 24 games over the last 2 seasons, whereas Hejda's contributions have been over the duration of the season. Hejda is also higher in OF and DF, while both OFs are below 40.

Pat, you can accept/reject Erskine at 3 years 1M per with a team option for a 4th year.

-------------------------------------------------------------

An award has been determined in the Brian Sutherby arbitration.

NYR comps: Lauri Tukonen, Taylor Pyatt
Arbitrator comps: Daniel Paille, Tom Kostopoulous, and Matt Walker

Sutherby is a very serviceable third/fourth line player with decent LE and enough faceoff skill to be considered for that position.

NYR proposed 4 years at 650k per. My arbitrator felt that Sutherby falls somewhere between Paille and Kostopoulous, proposing a 1.1M number.

I am going to rule along with my arbitrator and award Sutherby 1.1M per. He is a 75 DF player with low-mid 70s intangibles, including a SK good enough for a trapping/D&C line. Sutherby still falls below the AHL threshold and has been part of two playoff runs including 8 points in 24 playoff games as an energy line guy.

Pat, you can accept/reject Sutherby at 1.1M per for 4 years.

I accept both arbitration results.

Also, bump to my offers for Anisimov, Callahan, McGinn, et al, in this thread. Just so you know I'm not slacking! :)

Anisimov: 3,125,834 (250% base(80 OF 70 DF in fastsim, bumped a bracket and made him off. spec.), +350k off. spec., -100k CH)
Callahan: 1,510,000 (30% base dec., -100k PL)
McGinn: 762,500 (25% base, -300k PL, CH, HI)
Williams: 981,250 (25% base, +300k def. spec, -400k SH, PL, ST, PE) (would only take two-year offer)
Carlson: 493,750 (25% base, -600k SH, PL, ST, HI, SK, PE) (I doubt he agrees to this deal)
Johnson: Technically, arbitration for goalies, but since he'll never make the NHL, I'll honor the 25% increase and say 825,000.

Again, I'll use this as a reminder with the minor league guys, the formula does not guarantee a signing. It's just a number to offer.

The Jason Arnott rights arbitration has been completed.

The New York Rangers offered 5.5M per for 2 years with a team option. Because Arnott was testing the market, the salary had to be 105% of my arbitrator's ruling.

My arbitrator proposed 4.5M.

The New York Rangers have signed Jason Arnott for 5.5M for 2 years with a TO.

Not sure if Backlund gets offered a new contract under the standard UFA process, or the standard RFA process. So I'll do both.

UFA: 875K x 1.25 = 1093750 - 400K (sub-65 devaluations) = 693750

RFA: 875K x 1.05 = 918750

(You can see why I'm hoping for UFA...)

Either way, 3-year deal, 2-way, TO.

Backlund was qualified by Detroit so you technically traded for his rights. That would make it a RFA deal.

Awards have been determined in the Sami Pahlsson and Paul Kariya arbitrations.

Pahlsson
Terms: 1 yr + TO
GM proposal: 1.9M; comps: Madden, Malhotra
Agent proposal: 2.5M; comps: Olesz, Kelly, Malhotra

Sami Pahlsson has been playing at an inflated salary due to having to be overpaid by the NHL Blue Jackets to actually get him to Columbus. The real life Pahlsson is definitely a more valuable player than the EHEC Pahlsson, based on faceoffs, defensive play, and having won a Stanley Cup in Anaheim. EHEC Pahlsson is certainly a usable player, with good defensive skills, an 80 FA, over 70 LE, a CON that won't hurt you, and he stays out of the box despite his checking line role.

Pahlsson played better offensively in the Jets system than he did in the Rangers system. The new line rules and restrictions aren't really going to affect him much as a bottom six forward. That said, 2.625M is an overpayment, and both sides acknowledge that Pahlsson is in line for a decrease. Based on our fastsim file, Pahlsson has very little regression over the two years that this contract could potentially be valid for, so I don't believe a max decrease is in order.

Pahlsson's still a valuable player. His higher FA and HI make him more valuable than agent comp Kelly. Malhotra was signed to a very GM-friendly FA contract. Olesz is certainly overpaid. Madden's a good comp and it remains to be seen what Madden will make in arbitration with his case pending.

I award Sami Pahlsson $2,250,000 for the 2012-13 season with a team option for 2013-14.

Kariya
Terms: 1 yr
GM proposal: 2.8M; comps: Selanne, Sullivan, Koivu
Agent proposal: 3.6M; comps: Tanguay, Jokinen, Williams, Huselius

It's interesting that the GM used Koivu as a comp. Koivu just received a 1M raise in arbitration due to his tremendous intangibles, including an 80+ LE. The two are very similar players, with Kariya's 80+ CON being balanced out by Koivu's ability to play center and win draws. Jokinen and Sullivan have pending arbitration cases coming up over the next few days.

It'll be interesting to see what Kariya has left in the tank after playing for five different teams last season. The one he had the most success with, however, was the defensive-minded Rangers, where Kariya picked up 18 points in 21 games and was arguably their most productive player in the postseason with five points in the six-game series.

Unfortunately, Kariya retired in the fastsim, so I can't see what kind of regression happens in the short-term. That said, with just a one-year deal, it's unlikely that Kariya regresses rapidly enough to warrant a near maximum decrease. Both parties in this case agree that Kariya's defense is a liability, but you know you're going to get a consistent offensive effort from a guy who is a team leader.

I award Paul Kariya one year at $3,250,000, considering Kariya's CON and playoff performance worth a little more than what Koivu received.

Pat, you can accept/reject these awards.
