Calgary - Anaheim

Post by Calgary.Flames »

To CGY: Alexander Burmistrov (66)

To ANA: Nik Zherdev (50), Mason Geertsen (86) and TB's 2014 1st round pick.

Risky trade right here. Zherdev was kinda struggling offensively since there is no more room for him on my H&G lines. Being a low-CON player he was often overlooked by people even though he was playing good here in Calgary over the last 2 years. Geertsen is the kind of guy you want playing for you. He will be mean, consistant, he will drop the gloves and be a great leader.

On the other hand, Burmistrov is a special player. He's a pest while also being one of the most gifted offensive player in EHEC. He will score goals, fight, take silly penalties, he will be in your face, he will insult you, he'll make you go nuts... he is all over the place. He's a great sniper and I know Sam Gagner who is a great playmaker himself is already looking forward to passing him the puck.

After starting the season 5-6 I was really thinking about actually keeping those picks but now that the team is back to life I just felt that it's worth giving it a try. I still have all of my own picks after all this crazy player movement.

Accepted by Anaheim.

Reasonning: Burnmistrov is a great offensive player, but with is penalitie stats, he is always under the scoring potential he could give to my team. I have too much penalities given in my team, and a lot of time it's because of him. Also, i have Teravaienen on my farm who is ready to play on an offensive line and who i think will make the same attribution on score sheets, expet of the penalities. The 2 key additions in this trade are Geersteen and the 1st pick. If you looked to my defence, you see that there's a big missing of d-man who can hit. He will be an useful man for me and will always give me good minutes with his hight con. Depending of what kind of results i got after this trade, the 1st will give me a good asset to work on future trade too find the kind of player i want. For Zherdev, don't really know about what he could bring on a team because of his low conc, but i'll try to put him on different situation to see what he can give the best to us.

Approved.

Will be entered after sim.

Burmistrov is a solid player and a great skater, but he does have his PE problems and a fairly one-dimensional game. Zherdev, despite his CON, is a pretty balanced player that has thrived given the right linemates. His inclusion also helps the salaries work out. Geertsen may have a PE under 50, but a high FI ceiling and a high HI makes him valuable as a player that will bite the bullet for his better, more skilled teammates who would inexplicably fight (a la Phil Danault) and we've seen that a high HI can offset a low PE in terms of discipline. The 1st should be a top 20 pick when all is said and done.

Calgary's going for it and Anaheim's been locked in mediocrity for a while. With a couple of firsts in the next draft and a slightly less skilled, but more balanced, player in Teravainen waiting in the wings, this deal has some upside for him.
