Interim GM summary

- The team did not make the play-offs in three consecutive seasons and now the team is sixth in Eastern Conference, therefore, in a very good position to make the play-offs this year with nine points ahead of the ninth team battling for a chance to make the play-offs

- The team finally has some harder players to play aganst, it has better offense and better defense like it had before

-Goalies situation: Yes, good goalie Gibson has been traded but free-agent signee Marek Langhamer has done a very good job as a back-up goalie and Varlamov is having a really good season as a starter.

-Defense situation: Capitals traded defensemen like Rielly, Svedberg and Galin away, but the arrivals of defensemen like Beaulieau, Coburn (consider it as three for three), the defense is playing better overall and especially if you consider the emergence of young stud defensemen Miro Heiskanen and a good solid play from another young defensemen, Brett Pesce, you've got yourself a really good defense and good three pairs. Also, another interesting prospect who could be a top-4 defenseman can soon also make a good impression, his name is Dmitri Samorukov. (Acquired in a Svedberg trade). Also, neccessary to note - young defenseman Filip Johansson is also a new-face in the organization who can play in the NHL next season without much of a problem. Really solid defensive defenseman.

-Offense situation: The team traded forwards like Gusev, who has been a pretty good scorer for the team but his defensive play was an issue, also good two-way player Ryan Johansen has been dealt, and same goes for Frederik Forsberg and some fringe guys like Di Giuseppe, Filippi or McCarron are gone now, but the interim GM managed to bring its new face of the franchise in - Gabriel Landeskog - an elite line centreman. Excellent performer, and really good hit-and grind RW Nick Bjugstad is also a new arrival and here to stay for a long time. Also, an interesting young prospect Benoit-Olivier Groulx has been brought in, he could centre the second-line just like Forsberg did, but he just needs a little more time to develop. Young two-way russian abbrasive forward Sharov is continuing in his development and is playing really good hockey lately. Another new acquisting James Livingston could also be a very good addition on the wing in a hit and grind line. Some solid centremen like Schenn or Hoffman have been brought in also. And also, let's not forget about the waiver claims like Tyler Toffoli and Chris Calnan who are also playing really, really good hockey on second or third line, respectively. Oshie and Kuehnhackl in their new roles are surprisingly excellent also. A young free agent signee Justin Bailey is also suprisingly good. And other talented hard-to-play-against kids who can score are also knocking on the doors. Honorable mentions: Juho Lammikko, Trent Frederic, Pavel Kraskovsky and Nick Paul. All things look good here.

-Draft picks: Since the interim GM took over, Washington Capitals managed to score:

4x 2nd round picks

All things trending upwards.
Let's hope a new GM will make the best out of it.
Hopefully a new guy will be found sooner than later.
