While the Rangers have wheeled and dealed lots of draft picks and prospects over the previous three drafts, not counting this years, (2017-2019), there are several prospects current signed and ready to play with the Hartford Wolfpack. The Rangers really look forward to their development this year and expect big things when they are ready for the jump to the NHL.

Quinn Hughes - 2018, 1st Round, 5th overall

Headlining the Rangers young talent is defenseman Quinn Hughes. Hughes has hockey in his blood, as his brother Jack, was the second overall pick by Pittsburgh in 2019. While slightly in his brother's shadow, Quinn Hughes is overflowing with talent himself, a major reason the Rangers drafted him as highly as they did. Hughes is undoubtedly an offensive-minded defenseman. The goal this year in the AHL is to develop his defensive game, while giving him top powerplay time. The Rangers expect him to quarterback their Powerplay in the future, and with enough effort and practice, believe he can be strong in his own end as well. What Hughes lacks in size, he makes up for with his cerebral game, and thinks the game at an elite level.

Jonah Gadjovich - 2017, 1st Round, 26th overall

The 2017 draft class was considered somewhat weak overall, but there was lots of decent talent throughout, even if the peaks weren't there. At 26th overall, the Rangers took Gadjovich, a large defensive-minded winger who the Rangers wanted to see develop. This year is finally his to show off as a member of the AHL affiliate. Gadjovich looks to play top minutes, and the Rangers are hoping he finds his offensive game as much as his ability to hit and grind. One nice thing going for Gadjovich may be tempered expectations. While a first round pick always carries some promise, the Rangers aren't looking to Gadjovich to emerge as a top line talent, which they have covered for the foreseeable future. Gadjovich playing hard minutes, consistently, could provide big dividends for both the player and the team.

Alex Campbell - 2019, 2nd Round, 59th overall

The youngest of the top Ranger youth movement is Alex Campbell. Drafted in 2019, Alex is joining the Wolfpack this year along with Hughes and Gadjovich. Campbell has elite offensive talent. His shooting and playmaking are both NHL-caliber already even at 19 years old. Obviously, his defensive game and consistency need work. The Rangers have built up the Wolfpack with some elder statesmen as well as guys like Campbell who they hope can teach him how to be responsible in his own zone. The Rangers think Campbell has a lot of promise, and are eager to see what all he shows them this year playing against older, bigger players, which he can expect to be even bigger and faster when he breaks in at the NHL-level.
